What We Are Looking For:

  • 3+ years experience prepping and/or cooking in a professional kitchen (Required)
  • Food Handler’s Certification (Required)
  • Experience working Front and Back Expo (Preferred)
  • Dishwashing Experience
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency & practice perfect sanitation
  • Ability to give and take directions
  • Ability to decipher and follow recipes without error
  • Ability to work quickly with precision and meet all food safety requirements

Working Conditions (Physical Requirements):

  • Exposure to loud noises: The person in this position will be working in a kitchen where orders are being shouted, there is loud machinery and kitchen equipment, among other noises expected in restaurants and professional kitchens.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (Hot & Cold): The person in this position will be working with temperatures expected in a kitchen environment.
  • Transport items up to 50 lbs.: The person in this position may be required to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Stationary Position: This person must be able to remain in a stationary position for a majority of their shift.
  • Move, Traverse: The person in this position often needs to move from station to station.

Baker/Pastry Assistant

Location: Screen Door Catering Kitchen

Shifts: Part Time (Monday Availability Required)

The bakery team consists of our Pastry Chef and a few Pastry Assistants. The bakery is open seven days a week, with shifts starting early in the morning. Some shifts work alone, some with another team member. 

Applicants must be available to work weekends. MONDAY AVAILABILITY REQUIRED

 

This is an early morning position, with schedules that start as early as 5am. The bakery is located at 1836 NE 7th Ave., in Portland. All applicants need to ensure they are able to get to work on time in the early morning hours if they do not drive.

Wages and Benefits:

  • The wage for this position is hourly. The starting wage is $18-$19 per hour (DOE).

  • Full-time employees are able to enroll in health insurance, which includes medical, dental, and vision plans, after two months.

  • Full-time employees are also able to enroll in an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) with a contribution match up to 3% of gross income.

  • All Bakery employees receive sick pay, which rolls over to PTO in year two.

  • Accrual rates for PTO increase annually.

  • Employee Referral Bonus

Successful applicants should have:
  • Minimum of one year baking/pastry experience in a professional kitchen OR vocational pastry education/pastry program.
  • Experience making custards, pies, biscuits, quick breads, cakes, and dessert sauces. Cake decorating experience is a plus
  • The ability to work quickly with precision and meet all food safety requirements.
  • The ability to stand for long hours, reach and bend, and lift up to 50#.
